Saving the Odysseus

Since your successful rescue of Jacob Scarlett, you've committed yourself to the renowned MediCorp agency.
It’s unpaid, but it’s not for credit that you’ve done it.
While on patrol not far from the Sol system, you receive a message from MediCorp: a commander reported hearing a distress signal in a system not far from your position.
You engage your FSD and jump into action.

Go CMDR!

Your contact at MediCorp gives you the name of the target system: Alshat.
This system is approximately 253 LY from your current position. Head there without delay!

Once you’re there, use your FSS scanner. Your target is Alshat A 6 b.

Alshat A 6 b

Once you’ve reached Alshat A 6 b, go on to step 2

Searching for the crash

As soon as you face this planet, you waste no time and launch a volley of probes using your surface scanner.
The planet slowly reveals itself to you.

Your target is in sight, the Odysseus expedition was reported missing a few days ago. Your target is in sight; the Odysseus expedition went missing a few days ago.

They most certainly crashed on this planet, perhaps you’ll discover the cause.

You must get there as quickly as possible, as every second counts to save the occupants.

Once you’ve reached the Odysseus ship, proceed to step 3

Discovering the wreck

You descend at full speed onto the planet, narrowly missing crashing next to the Odysseus ship.

You deploy your landing gear and exit with your SRV toward the wreckage of the vessel.

The Odysseus expedition vessel

As you approach, you notice no signs of life. Your scanner is clear: there are no survivors here!
However, you spot two data links containing logs.

Nothing left but hope 1/5
I can’t believe we survived the crash just to waste away out here. At least The SRV is operational.

We’ve set the transponder so someone should find the wreck, but we can’t wait. We’re going to try something.

With a little luck we’ ll find a settlement or relay station.

Nothing left but hope 2/5
It feels good to be moving again.

Not the most comfortable ride we’ve ever had, but Oldham and Clark have managed to modify the SRV cargo compartment in to a cabin using parts from the ship.

It kind of reminds me of camping trips with my grandfather.

We also managed to boost the comms output, so with a little luck a passing ship might pick up our mayday. We could use a little luck after all that’s happened.

Hope finally springs anew!
They’ve hit the road and the three of them may still be alive. You climb back aboard your ship and look out for nearby destinations.

The closest seems to be « Clark’s Rest »… Maybe not such good news after all. It’s 162 km from you, so don’t waste a moment!

Go to « Clark’s Rest » and proceed to step 4

Follow the trail

You’re approaching the second stage of the Odysseus survivors. An uplink is deposited here, with what looks like a damaged escape pod beside it.

Clark’s remains

With your SRV, you scan the uplink for a log:

Nothing left but hope 3/5
Clark is dead.

Must have had some internal injuries from the crash that he didn’t tell us about.

Oldham and I buried him on a peak nearby with a nice view, I think he would have appreciated that. He always liked to capture images of the planets we explored.

Our supplies are running low, but I still have hope that our distress calls will be picked up.

The SRV was never meant to support more than one person. We’ve jury rigged what we can to make the oxygen filters last longer, but I think we have to face facts.

This has to work, it has to.

Poor Clark didn’t survive his injuries. You’ll have to keep going; with a bit of luck, the other two will be waiting for you a little further on.

You return to your ship and look for a nearby destination. The next one, "SRV - Odysseus," is less than 100 km away. You decide to go there, hoping to find signs of life.

Go to « SRV - Odysseus » and proceed to step 5

The rescue

With your engines at full throttle, you arrive close to your destination and discover a relay antenna with what looks like a SRV.

Relay station with SRV

You quickly deploy your own SRV and find that the SRV is empty. You look around anxiously, left and right. No bodies in sight. Good news.
An uplink and logbook on the SRV can be scanned, revealing the outcome of the Odysseus survivors’ journey:

Nothing left but hope 4/5
I must have fallen asleep, I didn’t mean to, but I’m exhausted.

Oldham has gone, he left a message saying he felt like stepping outside for a while.

He’s been gone hours and by the looks of it he didn’t take any of the food or water with him. What could have possessed him to do this?

I’m going to follow his tracks and with any luck I’ll find him alive. I don’t want to be alone out here.

I found Oldham. He was just sitting there as if he was in a park back home. Then I saw his visor was open. Oh god what am I going to do?

Nothing left but hope 5/5
The air is reaching toxic levels. My only chance is the escape pod we recovered from the ship. And to think I laughed at Oldham for strapping that thing to the roof. Now it could be my final resting place.

Clark and Oldham are gone, the SRV is dying on me, I don’t have any food or water.

I have nothing left but hope.

Oldham preferred to kill himself to give his friend a chance.
But thanks to you, his sacrifice will not be in vain.

Retrieve the occupied escape pod next to the empty VRS and bring the last survivor of the Odysseus expedition to safety!

Bravo commander, you’ve successfully completed a rescue mission. You can be proud of yourself!
