The project in detail

To help you understand the purpose of this tool, here's a link to a Twitch live stream where I explain my vision: Highlight: Ship Interiors: What would you want?

Why did I start this project?

I want to see if Ship Interiors can be an interesting addition to the game.

I want to put myself in FDev's shoes in order to better understand the challenges and difficulties involved in creating Ship Interiors.

Project goal?

The aim is to create a tool for the community. A tool that would allow the creation and exploration of different game loops around Ship Interiors.

Elite Dangerous current status

The game is under active development. We receive regular updates and new features are announced.

Elite Dangerous is FDev's main focus and takes pride of place in Frontier Unlock streams. It's one of their key assets for getting back on a more comfortable financial footing.

A massive overhaul of the store and the products available has just been implemented to generate more transactions in this direction. New features include early access via the store, to encourage more frequent use of this in-game procurement method.

The Elite Dangerous community is exceptional in many ways. There are many individuals with varied talents and a very strong will when mobilized. This enables it to achieve great things.

The game's development team isn't as big as it used to be, but the community still counts several thousand active members, as we saw with the battles against the titans, mobilizing up to almost 10,000 people for Taranis, and that's not counting players who aren't taking part in the war against the Thargoids.

A tiny window of opportunity

After the 4 new ships, powerplay 2.0 and new functionality announced for this year, Frontier will have to keep attracting new players. So there is, potentially, a small window of opportunity where Ship Interiors could become a reality for Elite Dangerous.

That's why this tool is being developed now.

The aim is to reduce the cost of Ship Interiors development to close to 0 for Frontier, while maximizing the quality of the game loops linked to Ship Interiors and, consequently, players' commitment to the game. A game that looks like us. #WeAreElite

Success vs. Failure

If successful, FDev will make more profit and we'll have Ship Interiors.

If we fail, we'll have an enhanced Elite Dangerous experience and new possibilities for the site's adventures.

Let's respect FDev's work

This is a very humble tool and there's no comparison to be made with Frontier's work. The quality is not the same. It's simply a tool to help Frontier and the community converge towards a common goal.

Flying Ship Interiors vs Landed Ship Interiors

There's an important distinction to be made between interiors on the ground and interiors in flight. I think interiors of stationary vessels are an interesting first step.

The gameplay inside a ship on the ground will not be the same as that inside a ship in flight.

Existing game loops on foot

There are many game loops on foot that can be transposed to Ship Interiors for landed vessels.

We could boost a ship's SDF by recovering a power regulator from a ground installation, or analyze exobiological data with a mini-lab like those used in medical facilities.

How can I take part?

All contributions are welcome: feature ideas, game loops (yes, we'll add toilets!), concept art, 3D models, feedback, ...
