Rescue in Troubled Waters

A well-paid job is always appreciated, but contributing to the good of others while receiving generous compensation is even more so. That's why, when you heard about the opportunity to transport medicines, you didn't hesitate.

Amid the hustle and bustle of ambulances at Nobel Terminal, you make your way to the landing areas and check out the available offers.

In fact, a delivery assignment marked as urgent is clearly displayed.

Medicine and Hope

You inquire at the station's employment office. You're told to wait in a small room where there's already a whole bunch of commanders all wearing the same symbol on their suits. After a short while, a doctor in a white coat comes to give you a summary of the situation.

Are you here for the offer? Well, it's always good to see motivated people.

I'll give you a quick summary of the situation. The Kalak Health and Research Department has called in specialist transport companies, but we still need freelancers for urgent assignments. You'll operate as a freelancer under the umbrella of Medicorp.

The job is to deliver, in a single trip to limit the risks associated with pirates, a cargo of 620 units of medicine to the mega-vessel Peregrina Gateway, in the HIP 18609 system.

Are you up for it?

You think for a moment before accepting and checking that your ship is capable of carrying out the mission.

However, before you leave, you may want to ask a few questions;

I'm head of the station's medical logistics department. But please call me Doctor André.

I'm in charge of coordinating the logistics of medical supplies to systems with epidemics or urgent needs, as well as the distribution of research materials.

Ah yes, why deliver drugs to the Peregrina Gateway? Well, this mega-vessel is the only way to get large quantities of drugs into the Peregrina system.

And as you probably know, Peregrina has been under permanent quarantine since the discovery of a dangerous pathogen. But that doesn't stop the study teams on site from needing equipment.

In addition, we'll be running tests to try and find a solution to this pathogen.

You look at the small group of pilots who were with you at the assignment desk and observe their outfits carefully before asking questions about their identities.

Their suits are very well made, with state-of-the-art technology, and they all carry the same logo.

Oh, them? I don't know much about who they are exactly, but I do know that they're very expensive and that their band is called Medusa.

They are the best in the delivery business.

Even if they're not always legal, they can find and deliver anything, as long as the price is right.

But don't worry. One of their members has withdrawn, and the rest of their group is busy delivering medical supplies to Vish 1. That's why we've opened the offer.

Yes, indeed, there are a few constraints, since you'll be working for the Medicorp agency.

For freelancers like you, the only basic rule is not to be armed. Your vessel must also be capable of performing emergency rescues, should you come across a distress signal en route.

I can point you to standard vessel configurations if you like.

Finally, if you like, you can rename your vessel to "MEDIC", but given your status, it's not mandatory.

⚠️ Consider taking fueling drones with you.

Everything seems to be in order. All that remains is to load the 620 units of single drugs and deliver them in respecting Medicorp's rules.

Once the step is completed, proceed to the next step

Acknowledgement of receipt

The 'Peregrina Gateway' is in sight. Apart from the patrols enforcing quarantine, this ship looks like any other.

But it's in its function that this mega-vessel stands out: it serves simultaneously as a security outpost, a medical center and a trade platform for the quarantined system.

Once on the mega-vessel, you deliver your goods and enjoy the feeling of a job well done, serving the common good.

With your bonus in your pocket, you decide to take advantage of your salary at the bar.

As you convert your credits into cash with the bartender, a pilot wearing the Medusa squadron patch on his leather jacket approaches you.

Hey, pilot, put the next one on my slate.

Well done, by the way. Crossing such insecure systems with a cargo like that, without a hitch, isn't for everyone.

Anyway, that's not all, but I have a mission for you, if you're interested.

One of the Medusa members has gone missing with a very important shipment. We need you to go and find him and complete the delivery.

I'll send you the details as soon as you get back to your ship.

And don't worry, it's very well paid.

And I'm Trent, by the way.

How can you refuse such a seemingly simple mission?

Especially since, with your Medicorp vessel, this would be a continuation of your last work.

Once the step is completed, proceed to the next step

Special Rescue

When it's time to board your ship, Trent passes on the information he has.

Thank you for agreeing, Commander. I'm passing on everything I have on Cetus Bane, Medusa Carrier #25.

As you'd expect, I don't have her exact position. With the nature of our work, we prefer to disable the emergency tracking of our ships, to avoid pirates chasing us.

But I have the communication pings sent by the ship for its clearance to pass through the stations in the surrounding systems. I'll transmit them to you via the Medusa ping system.

That's all you have. Now all you have to do is find Cetus Bane with the data in your possession.

But where should you go?

Password:

What a dreadful emergency system!
But at least it's effective in protecting us from pirates

You know your destination: the Algol system.

You take off, full of hope, to find Cetus Bane's ship.

Once the step is completed, proceed to the next step

Assurance Ad Valorem

Once you've arrived at your destination, of course, the Medusa Group's "security" system doesn't make things any easier.

The ship of Cetus Bane is there, but where in the world?

With a little time and a thorough scan of the system, you eventually locate Cetus Bane, along with fragments of its cargo nearby.

As you begin to refuel him, he contacts you...

This is Medusa 25, Cetus Bane to Medicorp ship, do you copy?...

Did Lieutenant Trent send you? That makes more sense!

Thanks again, you're a lifesaver.

I'm going to repair and finish my delivery. However, I've lost part of the cargo due to damage in the hold.

Can you deliver what's left of it to Onizuka Station, in the Terminus system?

I'll let Trent know. Consider yourself an honorary member of the Medusa.

Thanks again!

You're relieved. Cetus Bane is safe and sound, and was able to leave safely.

To thank you, he named you an honorary member of the Medusa.

To honor this new status, all you have to do is deliver this very strange cargo to Onizuka Station in the Terminus system.

With your cargo, the journey looks set to be a long one. Fortunately, your ship is equipped with a short-range car radio model. It may be old-fashioned, but it works.

Once the step is completed, proceed to the next step

Cerberus delivery

Onizuka Station - Terminus

The system is quiet. The only ships in the vicinity are those of the Imperial Navy and the Cerberus organization, responsible for security in this sector.

As soon as the shipment is delivered, we contact you.

The communication comes directly from Cerberus...

Mr Trent warned me of your arrival.

The Medusa collective, which works for me, thanks you. Cerberus too.

The relics you've brought back to us are priceless, and their loss would have been a disaster for mankind.

As a token of our gratitude, Cerberus is offering you priority access to the landing zones of our civilian facilities, as well as temporary accommodation.

Cerberus will undoubtedly call on you again in the future.

Good luck, Commander.

Without asking, the enigmatic Cerberus leader cuts off communication.

This adventure ends on a high note... and a potential job opportunity.

A huge thank you to the entire Dangerous Elite team for their help and support.
