Space Crawlers

After your latest exciting adventure you head home to catch up with the family and take a well-earned break. On the way you stop to refuel and rest at Hart Station in the Bast system. After dinner in one of the station's restaurants, you retire to the bar for a quick nightcap...

Snake Bite

Several drinks later Barney Shepherd, the friendly long-serving bartender, suggests one final tipple for the highway, but warns it isn’t for the fainthearted. He reaches high for a peculiar looking bottle and places it cautiously on the counter. A snake is entombed in the bottle.

Hart Station Bar: a long flight or the Bast Snake Gin?

Barney explains, “This, my friend, is the rare Bast Snake Gin, only made in this system and drunk solely by those brave enough to take on the snake. A Bast Snake's bite is deadly to its prey, but when only a small amount of venom is left in a dead snake which is then bottled with a carefully distilled gin, it has an intoxicating and yet uniquely calming effect on the drinker. Preparing the snake for the bottle is the tricky part and only specially trained distillers are licensed to do this.

Too much venom could have some rather disturbing side effects or, very occasionally, even worse. Usually only a small amount is added to certain cocktail mixers that dilute its potency, but Crawlers prefer it neat, and in a larger glass. Can I interest you in one, it is after all venomously good...?”

You are feeling confident and take up the challenge, draining the glass and then quickly feeling a pleasant numbing sensation. Those around you who have seen what was going on erupt into applause and Barney congratulates you, 'Only wannabe Space Crawlers tend to take on the snake. But to become a true Space Crawler you'll need to complete a few more challenges yet.'

You have heard of the Crawlers, a respected network of aficionados and expert bartenders who seek out the rarest drinks and the most exclusive bars the galaxy has to offer. Barney hands you a special card and says no more. Membership of the Space Crawlers needs to be earned.

The next day, as you exit the station with a remarkably clear head, you study the bizarre image on the card, wondering where it might take you. The family will have to wait…

Enter the name of the system you will need to visit next, if you want to become a Space Crawler.

The bartender hands you a bizarre card

If you need a hint, you will need to tip Barney handsomely, so think very carefully before you press the button below!

The card depicts the 2 ingredients of a rare drink made only in the system you need to visit next. It looks like something.. creamy.

The Ceremonial Spoon

You arrive at your next destination but it's not immediately obvious where you might sample the drink you have come for. You don't see the point in docking at a space station where they might only sell it in tonnes. So you check your navigation panel carefully.

Head for the Civilian Installation shown in your navigation panel

Apparently it adds to the flavour...

You correctly identify the station to head for and, once docked, learn that it contains a bar renowned throughout the galaxy for its lively atmosphere and wide range of potent cocktails. Indeed you waste no time heading to that very bar and find a party in full swing. You quickly get into the spirit of the occasion and have a great night out. At some point you show the bartender the card Barney Shepherd gave you and receive an understanding nod. The last thing you remember is the bartender using an ancient looking spoon to fill a glass with a creamy liqueur.

Who would have thought that a combination of rats and turtles could produce such a delicious concoction!

You wake up a little jaded but what fun you had! You recall the bartender drawing some kind of symbol on the card Barney gave you, saying that to continue the challenge you need to look for a sign outside the Installation. This will lead you to your next destination and, if you find a Space Crawler there, show them the card.

Enter the name of the system you will need to visit next in order to continue your space crawl.

Ok so the aspirin haven't kicked in and you cannot think straight. You need (another) hint...really?

Fly around the Installation. What do you see?

More brandy please

You arrive at the next system and head to the only station in the galaxy that sells (in tonnes) the drink you saw advertised at the previous station, not that you are a Didi Vatermann or anything. You have lost your sense of time recently, but you think it might be a Tuesday night and the station's bar is rammed full of friendly looking folk. You are reminded of some convention you went to a few years back, but can’t quite recall the occasion. You order the local brandy and get talking to a group of interesting individuals, a couple of whom said they work at the local radio station. It was a very very late one and the next morning your memory mostly fails you. Something about night vision and broken canopies? No, that must be rubbish as it makes no sense whatsoever.

Then it comes you. One of the radio crew, Edelweiss or something, kept saying 'you don't have to be nuts to work there'. At first you have no idea why he was saying this repeatedly, but then you gradually come to the conclusion that it had something to do with the Space Crawlers. You are pretty sure that you showed him the card. How hard can it be to use what he said to solve the next part of the puzzle?

For the space crawl to continue, enter the name of the system you will need to visit next.

OK...so after a night out with the Lave Radio crew, your are allowed a little more sympathy about your current power of thought. So if (yet) another hint is required, you know the drill.

Somewhere in space nests a raucous establishment, for some reason named after an ancient animal famed for hoarding nuts.

Hot Nuts!

Quite a long journey but when you arrive in the target system your navigation panel clearly indicates a bar. Well done CMDR! You have found what many consider to be the Milky Way's pre-eminent space bar! So much so that factions often seem to be fighting for control over it.

Bar fight or something else?

At the bar you explain to the bartender what happened in Bast and how you ended up here. The bartender smiles, 'Congratulations, Commander, or should I say Space....,', he pauses, 'I mean well done on finding this exclusive bar! Perhaps I can tempt you with our one and only Hot Nuts Challenge? Only a few bold commanders have succeeded....'

Pleased at what seemingly is a confirmation of your new status as a Space Crawler, but too tired to ask about the bartender's apparent hesitation, you decide against delving into this risky sounding challenge and instead settle down with a locally brewed ale. You notice a screen by the bar advertising the following:

****************************************************************************************

FREE NUTS!

Claim a free bowl of nuts (no not the hot ones...), if you provide the bartender with a one word answer to the following question: what do you get if you mix Heike Tea, Ochoeng Chillies, Indi Bourbon and Motrona Experience Jelly?

****************************************************************************************

Feeling peckish, you scan though the numerous local data logs to read up on the at times unruly history of this fascinating establishment. Perhaps the logs will also help you get a some free nuts....?
