A Pick-Me-Up
Once again, you travel to Farseer Inc in the Deciat to visit Felicity Farseer, the FSD reactor expert, so that she can improve your ship's performance.
Once again, you travel to Farseer Inc in the Deciat to visit Felicity Farseer, the FSD reactor expert, so that she can improve your ship's performance.
While Felicity takes care of your ship, you start to tell her about your dream of one day having a ship capable of much larger hyperspace jumps, jumps exceeding 100 light-years or more.
Hearing you, Felicity suddenly stops working and turns to you before telling you that this dream is going to come true, but first she's going to challenge you and warn you that you're going to have to follow her instructions to the letter.
The expert explains that all ships are already capable of jumps greater than the range indicated on the data sheet.
For this, there are two solutions: the FSD Injection and the FSD Supercharge.
Each method has its advantages and disadvantages, but Felicity makes it clear that she has no intention of talking to you about Injection.
Please note, however, that it is not possible to cumulate FSD Injection and FSD Supercharge.
Jumponium is the name given by pilots to the act of Synthesizing FSD Injection.
FSD Injection synthesis can be carried out at any time using raw materials.
This does not damage the ship.
The Jumponium temporarily increases the ship's jump range. Once the jump has been made, the ship returns to its original range.
There are 3 FSD Injection Qualities, each of which increases jump range differently and requires a different quantity of Materials.
Basic FSD Injection = Increases Range by 25%.
Standard FSD Injection = Increases Range by 50%.
Premium FSD Injection = Increases Range by 100%.
Examples:
For a ship with a jump range of 30 light-years:
With Basic FSD Injection = Range increased to 37.5 ly
With Standard FSD Injection = Range increased to 45 ly
With Premium FSD Injection = Range increased to 60 ly
Bonus Tip
If you find yourself in a situation where your fuel reserves are insufficient to jump to a neighboring system, FSD Injection may be able to save you, since by increasing range, fuel consumption for the same jump will decrease.
Before explaining the FSD Reactor Supercharge, Felicity asks you to prepare a ship that will be able to meet her challenge.
This ship must :
- Have a 'normal' jump range of at least 46 light-years (with or without Guardian FSD Booster).
- A Fuel Scoop
- An Auto Field Maintenance Unit (also called 'AFMU' by some pilots).

Felicity insists that a Fuel Scoop is obligatory for a FSD Supercharge to work.
Go to the Jackson's Lighthouse system as soon as you and your ship are ready.

Hyperspace Jump to Jackson's Lighthouse
On arrival in the Jackson's Lighthouse system, you're confronted by a magnificent and imposing Neutron Star.

Jackson's Lighthouse Neutron Star
Felicity contacts you and explains that it's thanks to this star that your ship will be able to supercharge and exceed its limits, but you'll have to follow Felicity's instructions perfectly if you don't want to be swallowed up by this star.
Things to not do:
- Getting too close to the star's center. Like all stars, neutron stars have a Zone of Exclusion, a zone indicating that we must not get any closer. If we try to go beyond this zone, the Supercruise will stop abruptly and this could be very dangerous, even fatal.
- Leaving Supercruise while inside the cone of a neutron star would destroy your ship in seconds.
- If you enter a cone while facing the neutron star, the star could swallow you.
To Supercharge your ship's FSD Reactor, you'll need to enter one of the neutron star's cones and stay there for a few seconds, until the FSD is Supercharged by its Fuel Scoop.
However, you need to enter the cone slowly, parallel to it and with the center of the neutron star behind you.
Here's an illustration of the trajectory required to pass safely through the cone of a neutron star.

Once the Supercharge is complete, the ship will notify you and you can check your increased range by looking at the 'Ship' tab on your right-hand panel.
FSD Supercharge using a neutron star multiplies your ship's jump range by 4, far more than is possible with FSD Injection, even Premium.
If you've ever taken a stroll through the galaxy, you'll have noticed the striking resemblance between neutron stars and white dwarfs, but don't be fooled - these stars are not identical.
While it's possible to Supercharge your FSD Reactor using the same technique with white dwarfs, these will only increase jump range by 50% (x1.5) but more importantly, the latter are far more dangerous due to their much larger Zone of Exclusion, greatly increasing the risk of emergency stop and therefore destruction.

Another thing you may have noticed is that the more your ship is loaded, the more your range decreases.
The reverse is also true. As a ship becomes lighter, its range increases.
This means that as your fuel tank empties, your ship's range will increase - up to a certain threshold, of course.
Now that you know the theory, it's time to put it into practice!
Head for a cone of the neutron star, enter the Matter Jet and Supercharge your FSD Reactor.
Your ship alerts you that the Supercharge has succeeded, and it's time to get out of the Matter Jet.

Your ship has just received its Pick-Me-Up.
Now it's time to take advantage of your increased jumping ability. To do this, Felicity will meet you in the HIP 15310 system, straight away.
To program the hyperspace jump, you open your ship's navigation system, type in the name of the target system, but Felicity calls out to you.
Felicity explains that the ship's navigation system isn't detecting your new range correctly and tells you that you shouldn't set a route to HIP 15310 since this will calculate a route using the ship's basic range and so won't get you directly to your destination.
To go directly to your destination, press the button:

Defining the Target
This button is located in the right-hand column of your navigation system.

Now that your destination is selected, it's time for you to make a jump into hyperspace, a jump of 181 light-years.
Having just reached your destination, HIP 15310, Felicity invites you to join the 'Notable Stellar Phenomena' signal located 698 ls from the star.
If you're going to travel, you might as well take the opportunity to discover something interesting.

Before leaving, Felicity asks you to look at the status of your FSD Reactor from the 'Modules' tab on your ship's right-hand panel.
As you can see, this Supercharge has slightly damaged your FSD Reactor. And yes, pushing the ship beyond its capacity has negative effects.
Before you start panicking, Felicity assures you that this won't cause you any problems, at least not at the moment.
Felicity explains that as long as there is at least 80% integrity left in the FSD Reactor, it will not suffer a failure and can continue to operate normally.
However, if the FSD Reactor's integrity falls below 80%, it will become dangerous to fly, as it could fail at any time. It's best not to imagine what could happen if your FSD Reactor were to fail in the middle of an FSD Supercharge, as the neutron star would quickly wipe you out.
But Felicity doesn't stop there, explaining that it's because of this premature wear and tear that she's asked you to install an 'Auto Field Maintenance Unit' (AFMU) on your ship.
This module will enable you to repair your ship on a regular basis when you want to chain FSD Supercharges using neutron stars.
When repairing a module using an AFMU, the module to be repaired will have to be temporarily disabled, so when repairing the FSD Reactor, it is important to stop the ship and leave Supercruise otherwise the ship will perform an Emergency Stop, which could damage it.
Several AFMUs can be taken on board to repair each other in the event of severe damage.
An AFMU cannot repair itself, since the module to be repaired must be deactivated for the repair.
Nor is it possible to repair the ship's Generator, since the AFMU must be powered up to operate, but the Generator would need to be deactivated for repair. To repair a Generator, you'll have to go to the station, so take good care of your Generator.
An AFMU requires a lot of energy, but it can be powered only when needed, so that its consumption is not always taken into account when building a ship, since other modules such as the Thrusters can be deactivated when repairs are required.
AFMUs can be recharged using Synthesis, which is useful on long journeys without a recharging station.
Now that you know how to Supercharge your FSD Reactor, you'll be able to reach remote destinations such as Colonia in 2 hours, or Beagle Point in just a few hours.
To travel with neutron stars, it's necessary to establish a route using the Galaxy Plotter tool from Spansh.
This tool allows you to create an optimal route for your ship by importing an EDSY or Coriolis Fit.
The tool also allows you to use FSD Injections when there is no neutron star on the road.
The route you create will display all the systems you need to pass through, including those you've never explored before.
It will also indicate where and when to refuel, and optimize jumps according to remaining fuel (less fuel in the tank, greater jump range).
There are tools for loading Spansh routes so that the name of the next system is automatically available in your clipboard, all you have to do is 'Paste' the name into the Galaxy Map.
For example, ODExplorer makes it easy to use these routes.
One last thing: it's possible to make much bigger jumps, with some ships able to travel over 300 light-years thanks to the FSD Supercharge.
