The sharp beep of your personal terminal wakes you from your light sleep. In the half-light of your cabin, only the flashing glow of the device disturbs the silence.

A message has just arrived.


You blink, still numb, but curiosity gets the better of you. You straighten up on your bunk, pick up the device lying at hand, and unlock the screen with an automatic gesture. The message opens;

Commander, if you're receiving this message, it's because you've been recommended to me for an operation of extreme sensitivity. My name is Dr. Leyna Vasquez, and I'm a former PharmaTek researcher. I worked for several years on exoplanetary pathogens, particularly those found in biozones around terraformable worlds. Six weeks ago, an unknown viral strain was detected on a mining station on the edge of the bubble. A strain too complex to be of natural origin...



I firmly believe that a silent epidemic is progressing in several stations of the human bubble. Officially, the health authorities are talking about a simple 'pulmonary infection', as for the moment she's only developing mild symptoms such as extreme fatigue or a dry cough with a sensation of coughing up dust. But my neurological analyses clearly indicate genetic manipulation.

  
Internal sources speak of a secret project: 'Prometheus', possibly initiated by a consortium of big pharmas including PharmaTek, Azimuth Biotech and local factions such as the United Namte Progressive Party. 
 

My objective is to identify the origin of the virus, collect evidence of genetic manipulation, and prevent mass dissemination. As you may have guessed, I need your help to complete this mission. Unfortunately, I don't have the funds to pay you... I'm counting on your altruism.

Commander, the data you find should contain the first iterations of the virus in synthetic phase. If what I suspect is true, PharmaTek didn't discover it. They created it. And they're planning something much bigger. Bring me those files.

Commander, we've stepped into a veritable hornet's nest. Herpin Research Base is an abandoned site with a troubling history, to say the least. The logbooks you discovered theresont alarming, and unfortunately, they confirm some of my darkest suspicions: everything suggests that Charly Herpin carried out a full-scale test on his base. He undoubtedly wanted to check the lethality and discretion of the virus: he deliberately contaminated his employees, without warning them. Can you imagine? And Herpin could have activated the virus via a trigger, such as an atmospheric change or a neurochemical signal during sleep once he was safe.



We're dealing with an extremely virulent, airborne pathogen.... The urgency is real... Imagine what it would be like if a single particle got into a station's air recycling system...
 


Once you've completed your initial surveys, pass on to me the planet with the greatest biological potential. I'll continue my research remotely to find out which biological species you should be looking for precisely.
