Planetary Port - Jacob Scarlett

After more than a month of well-deserved rest on the brand-new Planetary Port Jacob Scarlett, of the Col 285 Sector QN-I a39-0, you'd almost forgotten what adrenalin tastes like.

Between jaunts to the leisure center, frenzied games of GravBall and steaming cocktails in the bar, time seemed to pass weightlessly, far from the dangers of the galaxy.

And its leisure complex

But everything changed that morning.

As you doze off over a glass of Gerasian Gueuze Beer adulterated, the familiar, upbeat voice of Maximus Moulin, star host of FSD FM, breaks the routine:

Attention all CMDRs in search of glory, credits… or a good old-fashioned space thrill! The Thalen sisters are back, and they need a skilled—and discreet—CMDR.

If you’ve got the guts, the instincts, and an FSD ready to jump, tune in to encrypted frequency 9.77 before the cycle ends.

FSD FM Radio

A silence follows the announcement, then the music resumes. But something has changed;

Your instincts will kick in. The Thalen sisters never make public calls, except when something really serious is going on.

The leisure center can wait. Adventure won't.

The corridor echoes beneath your footsteps as you make your way to a secluded area of the planetary port. Nestled between a research center and a disused wing;

In front of you, a circular door opens with a gasp. A pale light streams out.

You enter the Alchemy Room.

Elya and Naari Thalen

The interior is both confusing and fascinating. It's a laboratory... but different. Robotic arms in stasis dangle like metallic vines. Data monitors project swirling equations, interspersed with incomprehensible symbols. In the center of the room, an alchemical reactor beats slowly, broadcasting blue pulses that subtly alter local gravity.

CMDR! Welcome to our merry chaos! I'm Elya Thalen, once a brilliant Imperial researcher.

Today? Well, let's just say the Empire finds me slightly unstable.

And I'm Naari Thalen! My sister says I'm unstable too, but I prefer to say creatively unlocked.

We're the Thalen Sisters. And we have... a project.

The Thalen sisters' matrix of vital transmutation

This is our vital transmutation matrix. In simple terms: a bio-xeno incubator designed to fuse rare and unstable substances. If all goes according to plan, we'll give birth to an entirely new form of life. But don't worry, we've reinforced the room. Last time, there was just a bit of unstable matter chanting in Sanskrit.

In a nutshell! Long story short: we need four rare things. Very rare. But also... very temperamental.

You find them for us, we throw them into the bio-synthetic fusion core, give it a whirl, and BOUM: either a new life form emerges or an ancient god awakens. Exciting, isn't it?

🌿 Fatal Flavor

CMDR... ah, no. No, no, no. We can't come. Too many things... to monitor... to contain. The lab is still breathing, literally. But! For your mission, we entrust you with a fragment of us. Something shaped. Not quite alive. Not quite something else either. It will guide you.

Xylo, Thalen sisters' puppet

Greetings, CMDR. My name is Xylo. I am an embodied cognitive entity, the fruit of a feat by the Thalen sisters. They were able to transpose a consciousness, mine, into this articulated receptacle we call a puppet.

Despite the singular nature of this encounter, you return to your ship, with your new companion firmly attached to your belt: Xylo, an articulated entity with a living consciousness. Together, you leave the planetary port, ready to begin your mission.

Once you'd left the planet's atmosphere behind, Xylo, seated on your dashboard, spoke up.

During my organic life, if it can still be called that, I had made enigma my language, and mystery a tool for transmission. The Thalen sisters, quite logically, felt that this method deserved to be perpetuated.

For, you see, stated truth is fragile... but self-discovered truth forges sharper minds.

To guide you in this quest, I invite you to consult this little gem of knowledge: the Codex of the Thalen Sisters, dedicated to rare commodities and their singularities.

But if you don't mind, CMDR, let's go one step further together.
Here comes the first riddle, and with it, the first piece of the puzzle. It concerns the very first merchandise...

It grows naturally, producing a translucent red fruit with a unique taste... but beware: the plant is carnivorous. Its berries, impregnated with the blood of its prey, are said to have slimming properties.

What blood-soaked delicacy are we talking about?

Go to the Neritus system, then to the Toll Ring, to collect at least one ton of the rare commodity named: Neritus Berries.

Toll Ring

Once the property is in your possession, Xylo sends you further information.

Nutrient medium & growth gas pedal: Neritus Berries

These rare berries are rich in regenerative enzymes. Reduced to a paste, they are injected into the internal structure of eggs, fueling the growth of embryonic tissues. They promote genome fusion and mutation stabilization.

I also took the liberty of recovering the informative poster for the merchandise in question. A precautionary and aesthetic measure.

Once the step is completed, proceed to the next step

☣️ Creeping War

My sincerest congratulations, CMDR. You have pierced the veil of this enigma with remarkable sagacity. Now, let's open the next chapter together... Here's the next riddle.

Individually tiny, but swarming... unstoppable. This crawling concentrate of biotechnology devours everything in its path. Adaptable, reusable and absolutely terrifying, it leaves nothing but silence and frost behind.

What is this organism that crawls to its death?

Please indicate the name of the station where the commodity described are located.

Password:

Go to the Borasetani system, then to the Katzenstein Terminal, to pick up at least one ton of the rare commodity named: Borasetani Pathogenetics.

Katzenstein Terminal

Weapons and defense: Borasetani Pathogenetics

From biological fragments extracted from the pathogenetics, glands capable of producing toxins, bone spikes, and acidic spores are implanted. This gives the creature natural offensive capabilities, mimicking an organic weapon.

Once the step is completed, proceed to the next step

🔥 Liquid Possession

Now it's time to turn the page on the rest of the adventure... Here's the next challenge that awaits you.

According to local security forces, those who consume it don't just get drunk... they seem possessed, as if a dark force inhabits them.

What is this sulphurous beverage whose effects send shivers down the spine of even the authorities?

Please indicate the name of the station where the commodity described are located.

Password:

Go to the Leesti system, then to the George Lucas, to collect at least one ton of the rare commodity named: Leestian Evil Juice.

George Lucas

Behavioral mutation and psychotropics: Leestian Evil Juice

This dangerous liquid is used as a neurochemical catalyst. It alters neuronal connections as soon as they are formed, triggering unstable states of consciousness, hallucinatory visions, and sometimes lethal lucidity. Risks: insanity, aggression, emerging consciousness.

Once the step is completed, proceed to the next step

🌀 Fossil Mystification

Let's get on with this exciting quest... Take a look at this new riddle.

They were thought to be fossils of alien origin, but it turns out they're man-made. Yet some are obsessively searching for them, as if they were worth more than the truth itself.

What is this collector's item with the scent of mystification?

Please indicate the name of the station where the commodity described are located.

Password:

Go to the Zaonce system, then to the Ridley Scott station, to pick up at least one ton of the rare commodity named: Leathery Eggs.

Ridley Scott

Genetic basis: Leathery Eggs

Long mistakenly regarded as mere decorative accessories created by talented designers, these eggs were misinterpreted when first scientifically analyzed. Only after rigorous re-evaluation were they revealed to be genuine. In reality, they contain a synthetic composite material of unknown origin, capable of reacting under certain extreme conditions. When injected with organic fluids, they transform into active incubators: their structure reorganizes into a living matrix, serving as the biological core of a highly controlled experiment.

Function: Gestation cocoon and bio-synthetic reactor.

Once the step is completed, proceed to the next step

🧬 The Child of the Four Substances

With the four Rare Commodities now in your possession, you set course for the Jacob Scarlett Planetary Port, located in the Col 285 Sector QN-I a39-0 system.

After docking, you head for the laboratory to hand over the commodities to the Thalen sisters.

Oh... look at that, Elya. He did it. He found them all. They're here. Finally. I can feel them vibrating;

Ha... the perfect impostor. A fake so well crafted it's real. Poor little artifact, motionless egg, you're finally going to serve a purpose other than sitting on a shelf. It's time to slip in... the real thing.

It's perfect. The Demonic Juice is still quivering... see that iridescence? He's angry. Excellent sign. Give me the Berries... quickly. They need to infuse before the first pulse of the Egg.

The bio-xeno interface opens. Slowly inject the Pathogenetics sequences. Too fast and we'll have an uncontrollable war germ. Remember last time? The screaming eye?

How could I forget...

It's in place. Look at the embryonic layers... they're contracting. It's starting, Elya. It's starting.

By Palin's crowns, look at that resonance! It merges everything. It's not just a reaction...it's a gestation. A will. The Egg is hungry.

He wants to be born...

Do you think we're ready for that, Elya?

I hear something, like a beating, but... it's not a heart. It's something else.

However, something unexpected happened: the egg grew at breakneck speed, pulsating with unstable energy. Suddenly, an entity emerged from the egg, tearing through the membrane with unprecedented force.

EMERGENCY ANALYSIS MODE ACTIVATED

Specimen Sheet: 'Vorakh Nérilien'

Class: Unstable Organism - Biological Xeno-Weapon

The product of an experimental fusion of ancient organic matter, military toxins and forbidden neurochemical stimuli, the Vorakh Nérilien is a semi-autonomous entity, conceived without ever having been desired.

At 2.5 meters tall, its body oscillates between bony rigidity and viscous pulsations. It exudes a neurotoxic mist from glands along its dorsal spine, and regenerates its tissues with alarming rapidity, as if refusing to die without taking something with it. Its behavior is unstable and unpredictable.

THREAT LEVEL: ULTIMATE

Despite Xylo's precise analysis and insistent warnings, there was no time to react. The newly christened Vorakh Nérilien suddenly entered the predatory phase, shattering the reinforced glass walls of the bio-xeno incubator with a sharp blow.

The atmosphere changed in an instant. This sanctuary of ingenuity and knowledge became a theater of horror, where shadow and fear prevailed unchallenged. The Vorakh Nérilien, a figure distorted by ancestral rage, slowly approached the two sisters. They had no time to flee. In a flash of violence, he snatched their lives.

Then he turned to you.

And in his eyes, you catch a glimpse of the inevitable: death itself, lurking behind a blurred sliver of consciousness.

Panic-stricken, you attempt a desperate diversion. You hurl Xylo at the creature. The puppet, faithful to the end, lunges... but is violently swept away. Its articulated body crashes against the wall with a thud, a bitter echo of its sacrifice.

This gesture buys you a few precious seconds. In a flash of lucidity, you activate the emergency protocol. The quarantine is immediately activated, bathing the laboratory in a glaring red light. You step through the complex's heavy doors just before they hermetically seal behind you.

You flee without looking back, after all, it's all beyond you now. It's no longer your business... at least, that's what you try to convince yourself.

With a final glance, you catch sight of the Vorakh Nérilian, motionless behind the reinforced bay window. His eyes lock with yours. No howling. Just that icy silence... and that look. You pray the glass will hold.

Without further ado, you return to your ship, your heart pounding. The engines scream with impatience. You leave this cursed planet, without looking back, hoping with all your heart you'll never return..

Xylo, dislocated, bathes in the scarlet glow of the alarms. His servomotors crackle faintly, his artificial eyes flicker. In this now haunted silence, he lets slip a final thought.

They offered him a body... a consciousness... a hunger. But they never considered what would happen if he chose to go beyond them.

Then nothing. Silence.

The last glimmer of a thinking puppet fades away, swallowed up by the red light and emerging chaos.
